Martina Mancini, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR where she co-directs the Balance Disorders Laboratory. Dr. Mancini’s overall research goal is to improve everyday functional mobility and prevent falls in individuals with Parkinson’s disease by investigating the pathophysiology of motor impairments and objectively characterizing them with wearable technologies. In 2020, she completed an NIH Career Award focused on Parkinson’s disease that characterized, with wearable sensors, freezing of gait, both in the clinic and in the home environment. She validated objective measures of freezing severity to be used in the clinic or laboratory during a 360-degrees turning in place. For these reasons, she was appointed as one of the Co-Lead (together with Drs Hausdorff and McKay) of the measurement subgroup formed for the Jerusalem meeting of March 2023.
