Jay L. Alberts, PhD, is the Vice Chair of Innovations within the Neurological Institute, holder of the Bell Family Endowed Chair, and staff in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research is focused on understanding the effects of neurological disease (Parkinson’s) or injury (concussion) on motor and cognitive function and developing disease-specific treatments to improve performance. He has developed a suite of mobile applications for the assessment of cognitive and motor performance. These technologies have been commercialized and integrated into clinical care pathways to improve standardization of care and outcomes; the NFL is currently using the concussion application.

Dr. Alberts is currently the principal investigator on one NIH R01 clinical trial and two Department of Defense projects and has 100+ peer-reviewed publications. He earned the Alumni Achievement Award from Iowa State University in 2011 for his translational research related to Parkinson’s disease.

He completed his graduate training in the laboratory of Dr. George E. Stelmach at Arizona State University and received his doctorate in 2000.
