Bill and Willie Geist Share Chapter of New Book with MJFF

With wit, class and lots of flair, Bill and Willie Geist invite us into their wonderfully quirky and close-knit father-son relationship in a new book called Good Talk, Dad, which is on store shelves now. As they banter back and forth on fatherhood, music, sports and Parkinson’s disease, the Geists manage to share valuable life lessons, tell hilarious stories and honor their heartwarming bond.

When the talk turns to PD, which Bill Geist, an award-winning special correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning,” has lived with for more than 20 years, there is no letup in their straight-talking style. The elder Geist gives a frank account of when and how he first noticed the early signs, why he kept the disease secret for most of those two decades and what he does to deal with it now. His son, who sits on the board of The Michael J. Fox Foundation, responds with his own musings on all of the “little things” he noticed about how his dad was “slowing down” and how he felt when Bill revealed his diagnosis to the world in a late-night Facebook post.

To celebrate the book’s release, the Geists have given MJFF the entire chapter on PD, called “Parkinson’s: The Denial Treatment,” to share with our community. You can download it here. We are so grateful and honored to count them both as members of our Foundation. Bill has a seat on the Patient Council.

While Parkinson’s is just one of the big topics this duo tackles, it was after Bill decided to share publicly his struggle with the disease that the Geists decided to collaborate on the book. With their children and grandchildren in mind, they wanted to create a record of their unique relationship by hashing out all of those important life issues they were supposed to wrestle with years ago — now.
