New Team Fox member Julie Morning has been braving the cold to organize the upcoming Frostbite 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk to raise money in her community for Parkinson’s research. The event will take place on Saturday, March 30 at 9:00 AM at the Valley Health Wellness & Fitness Center in Winchester, VA.
While Julie has no direct connections to Parkinson’s, she works at Valley Health where they believe that both a healthy mind and body are essential to healthy living. In the summer of 2012, Julie gave a presentation to the Winchester Parkinson’s Group on the benefits of exercise in PD patients, and that sparked an idea. She could host a race that emphasizes being active and fundraise for Parkinson’s disease at the same time.
Through her work with the Winchester group, she was also encouraged to reach out to a national Parkinson’s organization which brought her to The Michael J. Fox Foundation and Team Fox. Her initial goal was to fundraise $100 and has already far surpassed that – raising over $1,000 – and there is still time to register and donate. Julie has now set her sights on hitting the $2,000 mark! To learn how you can be a part of this great race email Julie at jmorning@powerwellness.com.
