Dan Miller joined the Richland County Sheriff Department (RCSD) in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1973. During his tenure at RCSD, Dan worked in every part of the Sheriff’s Office; he started the Richland County Dive Team and Boat Patrol, commanded the detective bureau and was ultimately promoted to Captain. He continued working after his 1990 diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, eventually retiring in 2000. As a member of the RCSD, he made quite an impact on the Mansfield community. Today, he continues to inspire his children and those close to the family—particularly Team Fox member Ian Isch, who is best friends with Dan’s son Darren.
Ian considers Dan Miller his “second dad and an inspirational figure in my life.” Ian recalls, “Seeing what an amazing man he is and what this horrible disease has done to him inspired me and Darren to take action to help fight Parkinson’s.” Last year, Ian and Darren started the Dan Miller Open, a charitable golf outing held in honor of its namesake. The inaugural event raised over $3,200 for Team Fox.
This year’s Dan Miller Open will be held on Saturday, August 25 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Mansfield, Ohio. In addition to the four person golf scramble will be a raffle for a variety of prizes, including an autographed Cleveland Browns football, Cleveland Indians tickets, autographed Columbus Blue Jackets gear and more.
Registration starts at $75 per person or $300 per team and includes lunch, dinner, skins and 18 holes of golf. To participate in their four person golf scramble, visit their Facebook page for contact information.
