Before my current life as a husband, father and attorney, I was an aspiring musician. I played piano and drums from a young age and earned my undergrad degree in music. Music was my passion for over a decade, but I began experiencing symptoms — a tremor in my left hand, slowness and rigidity — that affected my playing.

After visiting a doctor and being referred to a neurologist, I was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease (EOPD) at age 30. The diagnosis was a shock, and I decided to keep it a secret from most of my family and friends, and medication helped me mask the symptoms initially.

As a kid, I was a huge Michael J. Fox fan. Reading his books, Lucky Man and Always Looking Up, profoundly changed my mindset. His vulnerability and optimism inspired me to fight.

I retired from music and reinvented myself. I began law school and started exercising — crossfit and running, even though I was not a runner before. Prioritizing exercise and sticking to a schedule helped slow the progression of my symptoms.

I met my wife, Frances, during this transformative period. Our friendship grew into love and when I disclosed my diagnosis to her, she didn't flinch. Her response was, "I'm all in and I'm not going anywhere."

Fast forward to our life in Philly. I continued to exercise and participate in various races, from 5Ks to half marathons. In 2021, I decided to run a marathon. I reached out to my friend, David, and we entered the lottery for the Chicago Marathon. Miraculously, we were both selected, and in October 2021, I completed my first marathon. The following year, I completed the Philadelphia Marathon.

Digging into The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s website, I discovered I could run a marathon with purpose. I reached out to David again to gauge his interest in joining me to run another marathon, but this time with Team Fox. He immediately and wholeheartedly agreed. After getting my wife's support, I joined Team Fox for the NYC Marathon in November 2023. This experience was incredible, and it gave me the courage to share my diagnosis with friends and family.

Being part of Team Fox has provided me with community, connection, friendship and fun. Raising money for Parkinson’s research has been one of my life's greatest privileges. Running alongside others touched by this disease is both comforting and inspiring.

After the NYC Marathon, I sought another opportunity to join the team and found it in the 2024 NYC Half Marathon. Some may downplay the significance of a half marathon, but it requires the same grit, determination, dedication, physical conditioning and sacrifice as a full marathon.

On March 19, I proudly wore my Team Fox jersey, feeling the exhilarating rush of the crowd's cheers and Team Fox's support. Once I crossed the finish line, my beautiful wife was there, as always, to greet and shower me with love and support. Reflecting upon how I got to where I am today, I feel immense gratitude — for everything and every moment.
