The temperatures are finally starting to drop and fall is upon us. The changing leaves and crisp weather provide the perfect backdrop for a 26.2 mile race – and Team Fox has three amazing marathons fast approaching. The Michael J. Fox Foundation is excited to cheer on all of our athletes that have been putting in months of training and finding creative ways to fundraise along the way. Here’s a sneak peak at our upcoming marathon teams.
Sunday, October 13 kicks off the season with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. With over 70 runners this year, $116,000 has been raised for Parkinson’s research already as they aim to raise $150,000 this year.
Runners to watch: Current top fundraiser Sophie Wood is back for her second Chicago Marathon, along with Jimmy Choi, a runner with Young Onset Parkinson’s who’s also back for his second go at Chicago!
One week later, we’ll travel to Toronto for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K. The team is 35 strong, looking to fundraise $25,000 together for Team Fox.
Runners to watch: Team Herd of Heroes has grown in numbers, back for their second year in a row. The team will be running the 5K together in support of their amazing mother/mother-in-law/wife Kathryn.
The fall marathon season will conclude with the ING NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 3. With both new runners and return runners from the 2012 cancellation, Team Fox will have over 210 runners to support on race day. The team will be running together in the world’s largest marathon, hoping to raise over $1 million for Parkinson’s research.
Runners to watch: This year’s team has 6 incredibly inspiring runners with Parkinson’s disease. Among them, John Ryan will conquer his first full marathon while Michael Kelly will look to run his 4th marathon for Team Fox.
We wish ALL of our Team Fox athletes the best of luck as they ramp up for their fall marathons!
