Alessio Di Fonzo is a neurologist-scientist specializing in movement disorders. He completed his residency in neurology at the University of Milan and received a PhD in clinical genetics at the Erasmus University (Rotterdam), where his research focused on the genetic causes of Parkinson’s disease (PD). After obtaining his doctoral degree, he returned to Italy to open a new research field on PD genetics at the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Policlinico Hospital of Milan, where he is currently working in clinical and academic settings. Since 2009 he has been the PI and mentor of the MDS Group (Fresco Institute Network). His team is composed of excellent young researchers specialized in the field of neurogenetics and directed towards a promising academic career. His principal research activities include the genetics of PD and other movement disorders, cell-based models of PD and pharmacological trials.
