Aloke K. Dutta, PhD, moved to the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Wayne State University in 1999. In 2005 he was promoted to full professor with tenure. Since joining WSU, he has expanded his drug discovery research activities in multiple central nervous system disorder areas. His research currently focuses in the areas of neurodegeneration and depression diseases.
Dr. Dutta’s work has resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and in the identification of promising lead drug candidates for pre-clinical development. In an NIH-funded project, Dr. Dutta is currently working on development of multifunctional neuroprotective and symptomatic molecules as disease-modifying treatment agents for Parkinson’s disease. His current National of Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded work in the area of depression focuses on development of novel triple reuptake inhibitors as new-generation, broad-spectrum antidepressants. Over the past several years, Dr. Dutta has been serving as a reviewer in multiple NIH study section committees.
