Dr. Lerer is professor of psychiatry and director of the Biological Psychiatry Laboratory, Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel. He trained at the University of Cape Town Medical School, Hadassah and Herzog Hospitals, Jerusalem and Lafayette Clinic, Detroit, MI. His research interests include the molecular genetics of psychiatric and movement disorders and the neurochemical mechanisms and clinical psychopharmacology of antidepressants and brain stimulation. He has served as director of the National Institute for Psychobiology in Israel, vice president of the CINP and founding editor of the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology.
