Boris Gutman received his PhD under the supervision of Professor Paul Thompson at the University of California, Los Angeles Laboratory of Neuroimaging in 2013. Dr. Gutman’s dissertation, “Shape Analysis Methods for Brain and Skull Imaging,” focuses on creating automated algorithms for shape analysis via parametric landmark-free surface registration, topological shape correction, automated landmark detection, and geometry-based statistical analysis. The work relies on areas of mathematics and computer science including differential geometry, optimization and statistical machine learning. Dr. Gutman joined the newly formed Imaging Genetics Center at the University of Southern California, where he is currently a postdoctoral scholar.
