Carsten Alexander Wagner, MD, studied medicine at the University of Tubingen, Germany and did his doctoral thesis with Drs. Andreas Busch and Florian Lang characterizing epithelial phosphate transporters. Thereafter Dr. Wanger worked with Drs. Gerhard Giebisch and John Geibel at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology, Yale School of Medicine, as a Humboldt fellow on epithelial acid-base transport. Since 2002 he has worked at the Institute of Physiology, University of Zurich, first as junior group leader, then as assistant professor (2006-08) and currently as full professor (since 2008). The main focus of Dr. Wagner’s work is on systemic acid-base homeostasis and phosphate balance. His research team’sOur work has been recognized with several national and international awards and is funded by the Swiss National Science foundation, the EU, and private foundations. Dr. Wagner has been member of the editorial board of several journals: Kidney International, American Journal of Physiology, European Journal of Physiology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature Reviews Nephrology.
