Dr. Coffey received his PhD in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill in 1999. He received the 2000 Barry H. Margolin Award for excellence in doctoral research and the 2005 Grizzle Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Biostatistics at UNC. Dr. Coffey spent eight years on the faculty in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Alabama (UAB) at Birmingham, where he won the 2004 UAB President’s Excellence in Teaching Award for the School of Public Health. Dr. Coffey joined the University of Iowa in 2009 as a professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Deputy Director of the Clinical Trials Statistical and Data Management Center (CTSDMC). He has over 65 publications in journals of statistical importance and prestigious applied journals. His primary research interests include design issues such as power and sample size calculations, sample size re-estimation methods, and adaptive designs.
