Ciro Iaccarino, PhD, joined the University of Sassari (Italy), Department of Biomedical Sciences in March 2005. He earned a degree in biological science at the University of Naples (Italy) in 1996, working on location and functional effect of phosphoserine in human pro-urokinase. Dr. Iaccarino developed very early in his carer a strong interest in the molecular mechanisms underlying the functions of dopaminergic system and Parkinson’s disease pathogenesis. He received his PhD in biology from the University of Strasbourg (France) in 2002 with a thesis entitled "Alternative splicing and signalling of dopamine receptor D2". Since then he worked on neuroscience with a focus on the physiopathological mechanisms underlying PD. Since the establishment of his own laboratory, Dr Iaccarino has focused mainly on the role of mutant LRRK2 in PD.
