Doctor Levesque received his PhD at Laval University, Quebec City, Canada. He pursued his post-doctoral training in the laboratory of Professor Jean-Charles Schwartz and Dr. Pierre Sokoloff at the Paul Broca Center in Paris, France in neurobiology/pharmacology, focusing his research on the dopamine D3 receptor. He jointed the Faculty of Medicine of Laval University as an adjunct professor in 1995. In 2006, he transferred his research and academic activities to the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Montreal, where he obtained a full professor position in 2009. He has been granted numerous salary awards and research grants from the Fonds de la Recherche en Santé du Québec, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (USA), the Stanley Medical Research Institute (USA), the Parkinson Society of Canada and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (USA). He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles. The main research area of his laboratory is related to the neuropharmacology of dopamine neurotransmission. His main research interest consists on the characterization of the role of transcription factors of the nuclear receptor family in dopaminergic drugs, such as psychostimulants, antipsychotics and anti-parkinsonian drugs.
