Dr. David Gray joined the Drug Discovery Unit at the University of Dundee in 2010. As head of biology, his role is to develop strategies for people, facilities, equipment and IT to facilitate the effective support of hit discovery, hits to leads and lead optimization programs. In the past 12 years he has been responsible for the development of screening cascades to identify molecules for neglected tropical diseases as well as leading a portfolio of projects for diseases of the developed world. Data from his team has enabled multiple partnerships with industry and the formation of six new companies. In 2019, Dr. Gray was appointed as professor of translational biology. He was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2021 in recognition of his role in the establishment and management of the Glasgow Lighthouse Covid Diagnostic Facility, which has performed more than 30 million PCR tests since its formation in 2020.
