Dr. Edward Fon is the scientific director of the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital and professor in the department of neurology and neurosurgery at McGill University. He is a clinician-scientist and attending neurologist specializing in movement disorders. He is the co-director of the Canadian Open Parkinson Network, a highly integrated registry that has enrolled more than 2000 people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) into a harmonized national data and biosample repository. Dr. Fon has a particular interest in the function and cell biology of PD genes and he uses stem-cell derived models to study the cellular and molecular events leading to neurodegeneration in PD. His research in this area has provide clues about disease mechanisms that hopefully will lead to innovative new therapeutic strategies. Dr. Fon is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and, in 2023, he was listed among the top 1% most cited researchers in the world by HCR.
