Professor Francesca Cordeiro is a clinician-scientist, chair of ophthalmology at Imperial College London, UCL professor of glaucoma and retinal neurodegeneration, honorary consultant ophthalmologist/research lead and director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the Western Eye Hospital London. Her research, mainly funded through the Wellcome Trust, is focused on the molecular mechanisms involved in the treatment or pathogenesis of retinal neurodegenerative diseases, including glaucoma, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. She has investigated novel and translational approaches to these conditions and has received numerous international awards for her work, including the Lewis Rudin Glaucoma Prize from the New York Academy of Medicine and the GG2 Diversity Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medicine. She serves on various international committees including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, European Vision Institute, Controversies in Ophthalmology, European Glaucoma Society (EGS), EVICRnet and the European Association for Vision and Eye Research, and she chairs the EGS Neuroprotection SIG.
