Franco Onofri received his Master of Science Degree in Biology in 1991 and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Pathology, in 1996 from the University of Modena. From 1996 to 2001, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Biomedical Science University of Modena, where he worked on “Functional role of presynaptic protein phosphorylation in the regulation of neurotransmitter release”. From 2001 to 2003, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Experimental Medicine at the University of Genova, where he worked on “Molecular aspects of the interaction between synapsins, synaptic vesicles and cytoskeleton in the nerve terminal”. Since 2004, he has been an Assistant Professor in Physiology at the Department of Experimental Medicine, University of Genova, where his group uses biochemical and cellular tools to understand the molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission and the role of protein phosphorylation in signal transduction at the presynaptic level.
