Gerrit Machetanz, MD, studied medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, where, as a student, he also studied Parkinson's disease genetics in the laboratory of Prof. Alexander Zimprich. After graduation in 2014, he started working at the Paracelsus-Elena-Klinik for Movement Disorders in Kassel, Germany, with Prof. Claudia Trenkwalder and Prof. Brit Mollenhauer. In 2016, he joined the group of Prof. Thomas Gasser at the University Hospital and Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research in Tübingen, Germany. Dr. Machetanz is a recipient of the Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders from The Michael J. Fox Foundation. His main research interest is stratification of patients with neurodegenerative diseases according to underlying genetic and biological factors.
