Dr. Giovanna Paolone earned a PhD in the field of behavioural neuropharmacology at the Sapienza University of Rome. She has overseen established research efforts and developed new research programs in several prominent laboratories at the Center for Studies in Behavioural Neurobiology of Concordia University in Montreal, the University of Michigan and the University of Ferrara. In 2015, Dr. Paolone received a Marie-Curie fellowship and worked at Gloriana Therapeutics Inc. in Providence, Rhode Island, where she focused on the development of innovative cell-based delivery systems to provide therapeutic proteins directly to the brain to modulate generalized seizures in preclinical models of epilepsy.
Dr. Paolone’s research focuses on the complex, intermingled interactions between anatomical substrates and behavioural phenotypes. Her research explores learning, motivation and instrumental behaviours, as well as the propensity to develop addictive-like behaviour.
The resulting knowledge lends itself as tools to comprehend, modify, and optimize the neurobiological substrates that underlie neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders.
