Gregoire Courtine is a full professor of neurosciences at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), adjunct professor in the neurosurgical department of the University Hospital Lausanne (CHUV) and faculty of medicine and biology of the University of Lausanne (UNIL). Over the past two decades, the Courtine laboratory has developed an evidence-based framework to develop neuroprosthetic systems, biological repair therapies and rehabilitation procedures to repair the injured spinal cord and improve neurological recovery after spinal cord injury. Together with functional neurosurgeon Prof. Jocelyne Bloch, Dr. Courtine founded and leads the Defitech Center for Interventional Neurotherapies, called .NeuroRestore. .NeuroRestore develops neurotherapies involving surgical interventions to improve recovery from neurological disorders. In 2014, Drs. Courtine and Bloch also founded ONWARD Medical to scale up their neurotherapies to widely available clinical treatments. Dr. Courtine is the chief scientific officer (CSO) of ONWARD Medical N.V., which is now traded on Euronext (ONWD).
