Guglielmo Foffani, PhD, graduated in biomedical engineering at Politecnico di Milano (Italy) in 2001 and completed his PhD at Drexel University (Philadelphia) in 2004 with a thesis that combined experimental and computational approaches to investigate temporal coding strategies of sensorimotor processing in models and humans. Since 2005, he has worked at the Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos in Toledo (Spain) where he is director of the Neural Bioengineering Group.
His main research interests are: (1) brain reorganization after spinal cord injury; (2) neuronal oscillations in neurodegenerative disorders; (3) neural coding in the somatosensory system; and (4) neuromodulation techniques to treat neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. In 2009 he received the young investigator award (Premio Olympus) from the Spanish Society for Neuroscience (SENC). He is co-founder of Neurek SL, a spin-off company of the Fundación del Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos, and is the pianist and co-leader of the musical ensemble Ayahuasca Tango.
