Dr. Heiko Gassner is group leader for movement analysis and digital medicine at the University Hospital Erlangen, Germany and group leader for digital health pathways at Fraunhofer IIS Erlangen, Germany. His research is focused on the quantification and objectification of motor impairment in neurodegenerative disorders. In particular, he is specialized in the evaluation of gait characteristics in Parkinson’s disease (PD) using high-precise motion capture systems and digital technologies. Furthermore, his team investigates the role of mobile sensor technologies in detecting digital mobility outcome measures in the clinical setting and real-world environment to receive comprehensive insights into the daily life of patients with the aim to improve decision-making and quality of life. He also focuses on the development and evaluation of disease-specific digital exercise programs in neurorehabilitation. He has a substantial track record and is the principal investigator in several projects dealing with digital technologies for medical purposes.
