James Galvin, MD, MPH, is tenured professor of clinical biomedical science and associate dean for clinical research at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). He also serves as tenured professor of nursing and medical director of the Louis and Annie Green Memory and Wellness Center of FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Dr. Galvin is a founding director of the Leon and Toby Cooperman Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders, Marcus Neuroscience Institute, Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
Prior to his move to Florida, Dr. Galvin was professor of neurology and psychiatry and director of clinical operations at the Center of Excellence on Brain Aging, New York University Langone Medical Center.
Dr. Galvin received his BA in chemistry from New York University, his MS in nutrition from Rutgers University, his MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his MPH from St. Louis University. He serves on the board of directors for the Lewy Body Dementia Association and the scientific advisory council for the American Federation for Aging Research. He has published more than 85 scientific papers covering basic, clinical and translational science in the areas of neurodegenerative disorders, dementia and cognitive aging; is the editor of two textbooks on dementia; and leads numerous clinical trials investigating new therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Galvin’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Federation for Aging Research and the Alzheimer’s Association.
