Jan-Willem Taanman, PhD, has served as associate professor of clinical neurosciences at University College London since his appointment in 2008. He was previously a research associate at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the University of Oregon. Dr. Taanman's primary research interests are in translational, genetic and pathological aspects of mitochondrial disorders, including mitochondrial defects in Parkinson's disease. He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 1991. He was awarded a Career Development Research Fellowship by the Wellcome Trust in 1994. Dr. Taanman has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and co-authored eight books.
