Javier Ruiz research skills have been developed together with clinical training in the Donostia University Hospital (HUD) Neurogenetics laboratory, and since its foundation in 2011 at the Biodonostia Research Institute (IIBD) where he is part of the neurodegenerative diseases area as head of the group. In 2008 he obtained an intensification grant from the Carlos III Research Institute (CIBERNED), which allowed him to advance in the development of his doctoral thesis, completed in 2012 with the result of a former extraordinary of the UPV / EHU. He could also expand his training with the Master in Movement Disorders of the University of Murcia in 2011. In research projects his group has focused primarily on the clinical, genetic, epigenetic, and epidemiological characterization of Parkinson's disease (PD), in the form of several sub projects whose main objective is the identification of biomarkers. His group has obtained different grants from regional, national and international organizations, which have allowed them to obtain results with their subsequent publication in high-impact journals. The group have also been able to participate in international collaborations such as PPMI (The Parkinson's Progressive Markers Initiative), subsidized by the MJFF. In addition, he collaborates with ANEP in the evaluation of projects, and with various journals for the review of scientific articles (Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, Neuroscience Bulletin, Medicine, European Journal of Neurology, Journal of Neurological Sciences, Neuroradiology, AIMS Journal, Movement Disorders).
