Dr. Boss completed his PhD at State University of New York at Albany and postdoctoral training at Harvard University. In 1986, he started his own lab at Emory University studying the regulation of the major histocompatibility complex class II genes. In the years that followed his lab elucidated the mechanisms by which this system was regulated, as well as other gene systems. Today his lab focuses on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of gene expression and regulation in the immune system with an emphasis on disease models. Dr. Boss has served as a director of graduate programs and is an author on career development issues for young scientists. In 2008, Dr. Boss was appointed as editor-in-chief of The Journal of Immunology, one of the leading immunology journals. In 2009, he was appointed chair of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Emory.
