Jonathan Carr, MB, CHB, PhD, completed his medical training at the University of Cape Town and neurology residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Centre at New York City. Carr was appointed divisional head of neurology at the University of Stellenbosch in 1995, was subsequently made a full professor and continues to work at Tygerberg Hospital. He completed a movement disorders fellowship at the University of British Columbia in 1999/2000 and established a genetics lab to study Parkinson’s disease. Carr obtained his PhD in neurophysiology and genetics of myoclonic epilepsy in 1999. He is currently chair-elect of the African section of the Movement Disorders Society.
