Juan Esteban Ferrario, PhD, graduated with a degree in biology in 1999 with a focus in neurophysiology and molecular biology. He performed his PhD under the mentorship of Dr. O. Gershanik on molecular mechanisms of repair and plasticity induced by levodopa treatment in Parkinson’s disease. In 2004 he moved to Europe where he did two postdoctoral stages, first at the Salpetriere Hospital in Paris, France and then at the King’s College London in the UK. During this time he acquired expertise in biochemical and molecular techniques related to the analysis and modifications of gene expression, such as microarrays, qPCR or gene knock-down by RNAi, always focused in neural tissue with particular interest in neurodegenerative disorders, notably Parkinson’s disease. Since 2012 Dr. Ferrario is a researcher in CONICET (Argentinean Research Council) at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has received fellowships from international organizations such as IBRO and EMBO.
