Dr. Kaylena Ehgoetz Martens has completed an HBSc degree in kinesiology, a Master’s degree in psychology and a PhD in cognitive neuroscience. She is an associate professor of kinesiology and health sciences at the University of Waterloo and she holds a Canada Research Chair position in Gait and Neurodegeneration. Dr. Ehgoetz Martens directs the Neurocognition and Mobility Laboratory, which is broadly focused on understanding the neural basis for gait disorders and their relationship to cognition and emotions to inform better therapeutic strategies. She is particularly focused on understanding the pathophysiology of freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease, as well as identifying early markers of mobility that might flag future neurodegeneration in at-risk populations.
