Kjell Fuxe defended his thesis at the Karolinska Institutet in 1965 and became M.D. in 1971. Since 1979 he has been Professor of Histology at the Karolinska Institutet and became a members of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences in 1980, the Medical Advisory Board of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association from
1983-1985, the Italian Academy of Sciences in 1984, the Nobel Assembly in 1986, the American College of neuropsychopharmacology in 1994 and the World Federation of Neurology Committee for Research on Parkinsonism and Related Disorders in 2001. Among his honors he has received 6 honorary doctorates, the New York Academy of Sciences award, the Madonina Prize, Medal Awards from the Albert Einstein Academy Foundation, the French IPSEN Prize, the German Humboldt Prize Award, the ECNP Neuropsychopharmacology Award and the Palay Prize in Structural Neuroscience. His scientific research interests have brought him to different research fields where he has shown astounding productivity in more than 1300 papers covering several fields of Neuroscience.
