Klaus-Peter Knobeloch, PhD

Principal Investigator at University of Freiburg, Institute for Neuropathology

Group leader Molecular Genetics

Location: Freiburg Germany

Klaus-Peter Knobeloch finished his PhD at the free University of Berlin in 2000 under the supervision of Prof. Ivan Horak with whom he worked at the Leibniz Institute of Molecular Pharmacology (FMP), Berlin. At the same time, Dr. Knobeloch headed the transgenic core facility at the FMP from 1996 to 2000. From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Knobeloch was in charge of target identification and validation at Genpat AG, a company focused on developing immunomodulatory drugs. He then returned to academic science and from 2003 to 2008 was head of an independent research group studying cytokine signaling at the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP), Berlin. Since 2008,  Dr. Knobeloch leads the molecular genetics research group at the Institute of Neuropathology, University Freiburg, Medical faculty. Using mouse genetics, Dr. Knobeloch scientific studies enzymes that cleave ubiquitin, a molecular tag that marks proteins for degradation, and a ubiquitin-like protein called ISG15.
