Mario Ezquerra, PhD, received his undergraduate degree in biology in 1994 from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He then received his PhD in biology from the Central University of Barcelona in 2000, where he studied genetic factors associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Later, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Chartier-Harlin at the Institute Pasteur of Lille (INSERM, France) and in the Fundació Clínic de Barcelona. He also briefly worked as a researcher at the Department of Psychiatry, Washington University, St. Louis.
Dr. Ezquerra is a Miguel Servet Researcher in the Carlos III Health Institute in Spain and a member of the Centers for Networked Biomedical Research. Since 2013, he has also worked as a researcher in the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS). Currently, he studies genetics, biochemistry and biomarkers of neurodegenerative parkinsonisms, in particular, forms of Parkinson's disease with no genetic causes or with a single genetic cause.
