Dr. Mark Bennett is a senior postdoctoral fellow at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. Previously, he completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Bennett is a bioinformatician with over five years of experience studying the genetics of neurological disorders. Employing his expertise developing and applying cutting-edge bioinformatic methods for genetic sequencing data, he has contributed to high-impact studies, including the discovery of six novel genes associated with epilepsy, ataxia and dementia. Dr. Bennett has a particular interest in using bioinformatics to detect expansion of nucleotide repeats. He has contributed to the development of four bioinformatic repeat-expansion methods, played an important role in the discovery of novel repeat expansions that cause epilepsy and ataxia and is currently leading a repeat expansion analysis of the international Epi25 Collaborative epilepsy cohort.
