Dr. Lee is a professor of neuroscience and co-director of CNM-ITN at University of Minnesota. Previously, Dr. Lee was associate professor of neuropathology and Morris K Udall PD Center project leader at Johns Hopkins University. After graduating from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota with BA in Psychology (1985), Dr. Lee earned a PhD in neuroscience from University of Virginia (1991) followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Donald W. Cleveland (currently UCSD) at Johns Hopkins University (1991-1995). After a long tenure as faculty at Johns Hopkins University (1996-2009), Dr. Lee joined University of Minnesota in June, 2009. Dr. Lee is internationally recognized for his work on transgenic mouse models of neurodegenerative disease, including motor neuron disease, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and Parkinson’s disease (PD). His current work focuses on defining in vivo pathogenic and neurodegenerative mechanisms that are relevant to AD and/or PD via the studies of alpha-synuclein and LRRK2 transgenic mouse models.
