Michael Sasner obtained his BA in biology and biochemistry from Colby College and his PhD from the department of physiology and neurobiology at the University of Connecticut. He completed postdoctoral work in the lab of Andres Buonanno in the Unit of Molecular Neurobiology in the Laboratory of Developmental Neurobiology in the NICHD in Bethesda, Maryland, working on activity-dependent transcriptional regulation of NMDA receptors. He joined The Jackson Lab (JAX) in 1998 to work in the Mouse Genome Informatics program, and later led the technical information department that supports users of JaxMice.
At JAX he is responsible for the Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease mouse model resources. He also is responsible for the neurobiology tools strains resource, which provides mice that express cre, GFP, or other reporters in the brain. He is principal investigator on a grant from the National Library of Medicine for JaxMice database development, and the PI of the Informatics, Coordination and Service Center (ICSC) for the Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers.
