Michele Morari, PhD, is a neuropharmacologist working in the neuroscience field since 1988. He earned a PhD in Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, receiving a specific expertise in movement disorders. He is currently a professor of pharmacology at the University of Ferrara, Italy, where he studies basal ganglia, the part of the brain that controls movement, and its role in movement disorders. Together with his collaborators, he has mastered the most common pre-clinical models of Parkinson's disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia. Morari is known for his studies of basal ganglia function in parkinsonism and dyskinesia, where he combined two experimental approaches, in vivo microdialysis and behavioral analysis. Recently, he expanded his studies to the field of genetics of Parkinson's disease and started to use in his research biochemistry and immunohistochemistry methods and pre-clinical models with changes in the LRRK2 gene.
