Dr. Nadia Stefanova is professor of translational neurodegeneration research and she heads the Laboratory for Translational Neurodegeneration Research in the department of neurology at the Medical University of Innsbruck (Innsbruck, Austria). Dr. Stefanova earned an MD from the Medical University of Sofia (Bulgaria) and the University of Innsbruck (Austria) and a PhD in neuroscience from the Medical University of Sofia. Following postdoctoral studies in the department of neurology at Innsbruck, she obtained the venia legendi in neuroscience at the Medical University of Innsbruck. Dr. Stefanova studies the role of abnormal alpha-synuclein accumulation and neuroinflammation in the pathogenesis of multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Her team uses a multidisciplinary approach to explore new therapeutic strategies for alpha-synucleinopathies.
