Niklas Mattsson-Carlgren is an associate professor at Lund University and neurologist at the Memory Clinic at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, Sweden. His research revolves around neurodegenerative diseases, from studies of molecular mechanisms to clinical characteristics from preclinical changes to advanced disease. His overarching goals are to enhance diagnostic and prognostic methodologies, refine clinical trial designs and unearth novel insights into disease mechanisms to bring us closer to cures. His work has led to approximately 300 original papers, with particularly valuable contributions in the area of fluid biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis. His research journey includes doctoral studies at the University of Gothenburg (2006-2012) and postdoctoral studies at the University of California, San Francisco (2012-2015). Since 2015, he has been a researcher at Lund University, where he is a part of the executive group of the BioFINDER cohort studies. He holds double specialist certificates in clinical chemistry and neurology.
