Dr. Nikolaus McFarland completed his medical and graduate training in the MD/PhD program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Upon completion of neurology residency at the University of Virginia, he pursued fellowship training in movement disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard and participated in research of Parkinson's models in the lab of Dr. Bradley Hyman at the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease. In 2010, he joined the University of Florida neurology faculty as an assistant professor and the Centers for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration and Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease, directed by Dr. Todd Golde. His work focuses on the pathological mechanisms of parkinsonism and related neurodegenerative disorders using viral-based and genetic models. He also runs an active multidisciplinary clinical-research program for advanced Parkinson's disease and progressive supranuclear palsy and atypical parkinsonisms.
