Dr. Omar El-Agnaf is currently the acting executive director of the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, the director of the Neurological Disorders Research Center at the same institute, and a professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University at the Qatar Foundation in Doha. Dr. El-Agnaf is considered a pioneer in the field of Parkinson's disease (PD) and related disorders. His discoveries have greatly impacted the scientific research community, by providing further insight into the molecular pathogenesis of PD and by offering new opportunities for the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Dr. El-Agnaf's findings have translated into clinical studies to evaluate the potential use of alpha-synuclein (the sticky protein that clumps in the brain of those with PD) in body fluids as a diagnostic marker for PD and related disorders; in addition, his research has produced several inventions. Dr. El-Agnaf has published basic and translational research in high-ranking scientific journals.
