Rodney Chun Pung Go, PhD’s academic and professional career has as its primary focus the genetic epidemiology of complex diseases, particularly in minority populations, where he has been PI and co-investigator on grants investigating the genetic etiology of neurological (Alzheimer’s disease) and psychiatric diseases (schizophrenia and bipolar disease). Dr. Go has participated in several multi-site studies both in leadership roles and collaborative roles. He has directed collection of clinical and DNA samples from multiple sites, and performed genome-wide linkage and association studies. His laboratory also performed follow-up gene discovery studies on candidate regions. Dr. Go is now participating in a collaborative project to study the epigenetic underpinnings of schizophrenia and its related phenotypes using a genome-wide array methylation approach. Experience studying complex traits reaffirmed his belief that they are not totally genetically determined and that environment, with its impact on the expression of genes, is key to finding the etiology of sporadic cases of disease.
