Ronit Sharon received her PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science. She then completed postdoctoral studies as a Rappaport Foundation for Alzheimer’s Research fellow in Dennis Selkoe’s lab at the Harvard Medical School’s Center for Neurologic Diseases. There she made early discoveries concerning the interactions of alpha-synuclein proteins with cell membranes and the lipids, or fat molecules, in the brain. Dr. Sharon has been a faculty member at Hebrew University since 2004. Her work focuses on identifying the function of alpha-synuclein in the healthy brain and its roles in neuronal degeneration in Parkinson’s disease. Her laboratory has developed tools and assays to detect pathogenic forms of alpha-synuclein, advancing research on biomarkers and identifying therapeutic targets. Dr. Sharon has mentored numerous students and published in high-impact journals.
