Sébastien Balme, PhD

Associate Professor at University of Montpellier

Location: Montpellier France

Sebastien Balme is an associate professor of physical chemistry at the University of Montpellier 2. He obtained his PhD in physical chemistry there in 2005 and, after completing postdoctoral studies at Geneva University, he returned in 2007. Dr. Balme obtained his postdoctoral “habilitation” degree in 2013 and is currently a member of the European Institute of Membranes, where he is the head of “biomimetic interfaces and nanopores” group. His research activities are focused on understanding the movement of biological materials confined within a solid or nanofluidic matrix, studying biologically inspired nanopores and membranes, probing the interaction between macromolecules and nanostructured materials and building multifunctional, protein-based machines. Among his activities, Dr. Balme is developing nanopore sensors to study protein aggregation and for use as tools in early disease diagnosis.
