Dr. Sirwan Darweesh is a clinician-epidemiologist at the Center of Expertise for Parkinson & Movement Disorders at Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He received his medical degree (2015) and a PhD in epidemiology (with honors in 2019) from Erasmus Medical Center. His research focuses on laying the groundwork for the prevention of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Through a series of observational studies, Dr. Darweesh has identified a pattern of emerging motor and non-motor features in the prodromal phase of PD. He currently leads three prospective cohort studies (with a total of more than 1000 participants) as well as the new ‘Slow-SPEED’ prototype prevention trial of PD. Dr. Darweesh has published more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles. His H-index is 25 (Google Scholar). He has served as formal supervisor of eight PhD students, as associate editor of Frontiers of Neurology and as a member of various international panels in the field.
