Thomas Durcan, PhD, is an associate professor at the Montreal Neurological Institute (The Neuro), McGill University, Canada. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Dr. Durcan received his BSc from University College Dublin before moving to the U.S. and obtaining his PhD in cell and molecular biology from the University of Notre Dame. He then joined Dr. Fon’s research group as a postdoctoral researcher before becoming the associate director of The Neuro’s early drug discovery unit (EDDU). In his current research, he uses stem cells and 3D brain organoid models to understand how specific genes and pathways in Parkinson's disease might be affected in these disease models. His research is supported by The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
