Toshiya Nishi, DVM, has been consistently engaged in drug discovery and development for two decades in Takeda Pharmaceutical. During his career as a pharmacologist, Dr. Nishi has led multiple drug discovery programs in diverse therapeutic areas ranging from peripheral inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and neurological disorders. He is an inventor of soticlestat, a small molecule inhibitor of cholesterol 24-hydroxylase now in clinical trials for the treatment of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. His latest publication describes the first disclosure of soticlestat and its pharmacological activity in a preclinical model of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Nishi is now overseeing various neuroscience drug discovery programs as a translational scientist in Takeda.
