Benoit I. Giasson, PhD, is an associate professor of neuroscience at the University of Florida. He received his PhD in biochemistry from McGill University, Canada, in 1998 for his work on the role of normal and aberrant phosphorylation of neurofilaments in neurons. Dr. Giasson pursued his post-doctoral training with Drs. Virginia Lee and John Trojanowski at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied a range of subjects defining the biological, biophysical and pathological changes and consequences of the formation of alpha-synuclein pathological inclusions in human neurodegenerative diseases. He was an assistant professor of pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania from 2004-2011. Dr. Giasson has published more than 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and he is conducting research defining the biological activities and molecular interactions involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease.
