Dr. María Marquine is an associate professor in the departments of medicine and psychiatry, and she is director of disparities research in the Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Care at the University of California, San Diego. As a bilingual clinical scientist with expertise in cross-cultural neuropsychology and health disparities, Dr. Marquine has built a program of research focused on addressing disparities in age-associated neurocognitive disorders. Her work has centered on identifying mechanisms underlying disparities in neurocognitive decline, and developing tools for the accurate detection of neurocognitive disorders among Hispanics and Latinos. She has also led research on well-being and healthy aging among older Latinos living in the United States and Latin America. She is committed to supporting the development of early career scientists, particularly those of underrepresented backgrounds, and has served in leadership roles in various research training programs.
